Diane approached me last spring with the goal to run the Chicago Marathon. Her running over the past 6+ years was sparse, yet at the age of 61, she decided it was time to set some fitness goals and get fit. Over the course of a 20 week training cycle, Diane completely transformed herself. With the help of Kelly Shedleur and her nutritional consultations, Diane dropped a significant amount of body fat, lost a total of 20 pounds and toed the line at Chicago feeling the best she has in 10 years. She went on to reach her goal, “our goals”. Here is what she has to say about her experience with On Track:
November 9, 2014
I highly recommend Kim Loeffler as a marathon training coach. In April 2014, I decided that I wanted to run in the October 12, 2014 Chicago Marathon. I had not run with any consistency for over six years when I first met with Kim. She first assessed my level of fitness, then developed an individualized running plan that would take me to the starting line at Chicago and across finish 22 weeks later. It is not an understatement to state that I would not have been able to complete the Chicago Marathon without Kim.
Kim clearly exceeded my expectations. She was positive and encouraging, provided professional knowledge and guidance, and was a constant presence along my training journey. As an accomplished professional triathlete, her expertise in fitness, nutrition, and distance running was impressive. I trusted her wisdom that I could complete this marathon. Approximately eight weeks into my training, I injured my right foot and needed physical therapy and rest for a six week period. Kim was encouraging throughout and I was able to maintain my core training routines without having my overall fitness level suffer.
Upon recovery, I was able to resume my training and running schedule that Kim adroitly modified due to my foot injury. The revised schedule worked like a charm and I was able to add more miles each week. In addition to my individual training program Kim introduced me to other accomplished local athletes weekly through our scheduled track workouts. Lastly, Kim provided weekly reviews on any issues that arose during the previous week. Recommendations on fluid and nutrition management became a significant part of my training, especially as the mileage increased.
A few days prior to Chicago, Kim met with me to answer any last minute questions and most of all to provide a huge boost of confidence and emotional strategies for a successful marathon. I always felt that she was with me on the entire journey. My completion of the race is a testament to that.
